Short version

We collect as little as possible. Fish photos you upload are processed to identify the species and are not stored or shared. If you subscribe to the newsletter, we store your email address and nothing else about you. We never sell your data.

Fish identification photos

• Photos you submit are sent over HTTPS to our identification service, analyzed by an AI model, and discarded after the identification is returned.
• We do not publish, store, or share your photos. They are never used for training without your explicit permission (which we would ask for separately).

Newsletter

• If you subscribe, we store your email address, the state you chose (optional), and the signup date — used solely to send the monthly "bite brief."
• Every email contains a one-click unsubscribe link. Unsubscribing takes effect immediately.
• We use industry-standard sending practices (SPF, DKIM, DMARC) and never share or sell the subscriber list.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics with IP anonymization to understand which pages are useful. This data is aggregated and does not identify you. You can block it with any ad blocker or the Google Analytics opt-out.

Affiliate links

Some gear links are affiliate links (e.g., Awin). If you buy through one, the vendor may pay us a small commission at no extra cost to you. Those vendors have their own privacy policies once you leave our site.

Premium accounts & in-app subscriptions

If you purchase a Blue Seas Premium subscription in our iOS app, payment is processed directly by Apple through the App Store (or Google Play on Android). If you subscribe on our website, payments are processed by Stripe. We never see or store your payment card number.

Mobile apps

The Blue Seas Fishing iOS and Android apps provide offline species guides, destination guides, and AI fish photo identification. Camera and photo-library access are used solely when you choose to take or select a fish photo for identification.
